May 2025 - Motorized Screw Sorter

May 2025 - Motorized Screw Sorter

DSK001 hit it out of the park again with this one. This screw sorter is super fun to assemble and get working. You'll have to run it a bit to "break it in" but once you've got it going, you can sit back and watch it go.

This sorter is designed to sort through the m3 sized screws we use in our projects. Ours works in testing but to be totally honest, it does jam up after a bit. It was still a super fun kit. We recommend running it as slowly as possible for the most reliable performance.

Starting next month, all videos will also include the wiring and the code if there is any! in the meantime, here's the wiring diagram for this one.

If you've never used a PWM module before, let me tell you a little about it. Some items like DC motors and LEDs don't really do well with reduced voltage. You might be tempted to lower the voltage to make them go slower (or dimmer), but that doesn't really work well. A PWM or Pulse Width Modulation, unit basically just pulses the full power at intervals to get the same effect. That's how we move the motor for this really slowly while retaining full power.

Parts included for this project:

  • 1x TT motor
  • 1x Battery pack
  • 4x AA batteries
  • 1x PWM board
  • 1x black wire and red wire
  • 2x m3x25 SHCS screws
  • 2x m3 nuts

Accessory: Glow in the dark paracord

I'm a sucker for stuff that glows in the dark. I can't help it. I saw this and wanted it myself so that's how it got picked!

Filaments: Sunlu

This month we went with a selection from Sunlu. Click on any label below to go to the filament page if one is available.

Since we're still in the transition from Alien3D, different people are getting different filaments. Your filament should be labelled on the bag so you can get the data that you need.
